The Monroe
County Board of County Commissioners and the University of Florida have
shared a productive county/state/federal partnership through the
Cooperative Extension Service for 20 years. The primary mission of
the Cooperative Extension Service is to disseminate and encourage
the application of research-generated knowledge.
The Monroe County
Cooperative Extension Office is dedicated toward serving Monroe
County by providing objective information to individuals,
businesses, and agencies for better decision making and by creating
programs and services that provide unique lifelong learning
opportunities that empower people to improve their quality of life.
The Nature Conservancy is an
international, non-government, non-profit
dedicated to saving the last great places.
The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve the plants,
animals and
natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by
protecting the lands and waters they need to survive. In
the Florida Keys,
the local office focuses on the restoration of public and private
lands
through removal of invasive exotic species and replanting with
natives. For

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a regional agency
of the state of Florida, and is charged with managing and protecting water resources of the region by balancing and improving
water quality, flood control, natural systems and water supply. SFWMD’s boundaries extend from central Florida to Lake
Okeechobee, and from coast to coast, from Fort Myers to Fort Pierce, south through the sprawling Everglades to the
Florida Keys and Florida Bay.
The District works to foster strong, constructive partnerships with
other agencies and with local, state and national governments - to build cohesive support for water resource
management goals. To promote intergovernmental partnerships and closer communication between the public
and regulated communities, area Service Centers, including the Florida Keys Service Center have been
established to meet local needs.
